Transportation

The National University of Science and Technology Politehnica Bucharest (UNSTPB) is located in Bucharest, which is the capital city of Romania. Bucharest has reasonable connections with most European capitals. International flights arrive at Henri Coandă International Airport (Otopeni), the largest airport in Romania, located about 19 km north of Bucharest center.

Participants are kindly requested to make their own international and local travel arrangements.

Transportation between Henri Coanda International Airport and City Center

Taxi: the cars are situated in a taxi station located at the exit of the Arrivals Terminal. Please use the “Taxi by request” desk within the airport.

 

Public transportation:

  • STB – Bus express line 100 from Henri Coandă Airport offers daily service to the city center. This line runs day and night. The bus leaves every 15 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes during the night. For more information, go here: http://www.bucharestairports.ro/en/transport/bus
  • Train: The train provides a fast connection between Henri Coandă Airport and Bucharest North Railway Station.

Moving around the city

Bucharest has a thorough public transportation system with buses and metro lines.

Bus lines (STB)

Before getting on a STB vehicle, passengers must make sure they have a proper ticket for the respective public transport vehicle.

The price for one metropolitan trip, that is available for 90 minutes, is 3 lei.

The Activ card can be loaded with trips as well as with any type of passes, which can then be used in parallel. The nominal Activ card and the non-nominal Activ card can be purchased at any sale center and can be loaded at any sale center and at the vending machines. Besides, the Activ nominal card can also be recharged through the online reloading platform.

The Multiplu travel card is designated for occasional passengers and can be purchased at any sale center and at the vending machines.

Trip payment with the contactless bank card directly to the validator in the vehicle is available only on vehicles which display the “VISA” or “Mastercard” logo, and it allows payment with any contactless card, Mastercard, Maestro or Visa, issued anywhere in the world.

Payment of tickets can be done by SMS at number 7458, available in all national mobile networks. Passengers can purchase a metropolitan trip with a validity of 90 minutes, by sending an SMS with text message „C” at number 7458, at a price of 0.62 Euro + VAT (approximately 3 lei), or a metropolitan subscription with a validity of 24 hours, by sending an SMS with text message „AB” at number 7458, at the price of 1.50 Euro + VAT (approximately 8 lei). Payment by SMS must be done before boarding the public transport vehicle and after sending the SMS you will receive a message which contains the confirmation code of the transaction.

Metro lines (Metrorex)

The passengers’ access to platforms is permitted only after tickets are purchased and validated by the fare collection system. The tickets can be purchased from the ticket points of sales in all stations. Price valid for two trips is 6 lei.

Transportation to the Gala dinner will be provided to all participants.

Internet

Wi-Fi is available at the venue. The network name is UPB-Guest and does not require any password.

 

Currency

The local currency is “leu” – plural ”lei” (RON). The approximate EUR/RON exchange rate as of 2023 is: 1 euro = 4.96 lei/RON. However, as the exchange rates may vary, participants are encouraged to check them before arriving in Romania.

 

Medical Care

Medical assistance will be available throughout the forum. The UPB Medical Centre is located within 5 minutes walking distance from the Rectorate building and also an ambulance will be permanently available.

Banks and Credit Cards

The nearest cash machines to the meeting venue are located at the main entrance of the Rectorate building – BRD Groupe Société Générale and Romanian Commercial Bank (BCR).

There are several ATMs in the Airport, Arrivals Terminal, Public area, and first floor. You can take out local currency from almost any Credit and Debit Cards. All ATMs offer similar exchange rates and can be used with confidence.
